Elon Musk argues that humanity should aim to expand the scope and scale of consciousness by becoming a multi-planetary—and eventually interstellar—species.
The idea goes beyond simply exploring space. It involves spreading intelligence, knowledge, and civilization beyond Earth to ensure that life is not limited to a single world.
Musk speculates that one day humanity could visit distant star systems, discover evidence of alien civilizations, or learn from societies that may have existed for millions of years.
A key question is whether intelligent civilizations survive long enough to expand beyond their home planets—or whether many disappear before reaching the stars.
Exploring the universe may ultimately help humanity understand its place in the cosmos and secure a future beyond Earth.
